mnmlist: Liz Kendall MP: How Should Labour Respond to the Coalition’s changes to Health and Social Care?
How should Labour respond to the Coalition’s changes to Health and Social Care?
Guest Speaker: Liz Kendall MP, Shadow Minister for Care and Older People
Time/Date: 19:00-20:30, Thursday 2nd August 2012
Location: UNISON, Vivian Avenue, Nottingham, NG5 1AF
Labour fought hard to get the Conservative-led Government to drop its risky plans for our NHS, but they rammed them through despite overwhelming opposition from the public and medical professions. Patients are already paying the price with thousands of nursing posts being cut and waiting times on the rise. How should Labour respond now?
An equally big challenge lies in the social care crisis. £1 billion has been cut from local council budgets for older people’s social care since the Government came to power. Fewer older people are getting the help they need and families face soaring care charges, which vary hugely across the country.
How should Labour reform services and support to ensure a fair and sustainable funding system that delivers dignity, independence and peace of mind for older and disabled people and their families?
Nottinghamshire Fabian Society invites you to discuss these and other questions.
